Even though I've been shooting for

years, recently, after learning how to

prepare a few tasty dishes on my

own, I discovered how fun it is to also photograph food....especially when

you're done and get to eat all of the

props. On a more serious note, these

highly graphic, high-key images show

that even the basic elements of food

can provide interesting compositions

that tell stories with their simplicity,

creative placement and symbolism.

Furthermore, with prepared dishes

the process of food styling and presentation can be a very

creative and rewarding challenge.

Especially, when it comes to

building a shot to make it look not

only appetizing, but artistically

appealing as well.

(For more on that, please see my blog.)

As you might imagine, coming up

with concepts to illustrate abstract

ideas can be fun, such as this

Spring Forward piece to your right.

However, shooting a catalog

of products with a cohesive

brand identity can be interesting

and creative as well. And we

accomplished exactly that for

Suisun Valley, California

based, metal sculptor,

Phillip Glashoff.
